Tsega Finding Hope
Tsega Hailu, 45, is a mother of three children. She lives in Tahtay Logomti kebele. To sustainably feed and take care of her children, she worked as a daily laborer on someone else's farmland and also received safety-net support.
When the war began in her area, she fled with her sons and two oxen. After months of staying hidden, she returned home to find her house looted, with a few soldiers still in the area. She was forced to remain at home, eating nothing but roasted barley.
Once the soldiers left the area and things returned to normal, she struggled to feed herself and her sons. It was at that moment she was selected to be part of the Women Care Project 2024. As a result, she managed to buy three goats that she could resell and make a profit.
“I was unstable at the time to think about trade. But now we have been connected, where we can save together and take loans from each other in VESA (Village Economic and Social Association). In addition, we have received the money we can use to start our business. In the future, when I start earning more money, I will purchase more livestock and get a dairy cow.”
